Friday's post:
A new restaurant is scheduled to open Tuesday in the former Flowerdale Marketplace.
It’s called Sweet Tea & Biscuits, according to health department records. It scored an “A” on its first inspection (previous coverage).
The restaurant’s address is 2025 McCullough Blvd.
The building became vacant after Flowerdale Marketplace in June moved to a smaller building on Industrial Road. Owner Alice Rogers kept the retail side of the business but closed the cafe.
We went by the McCullough business today and saw people stocking the front area of the building. It looks like they are going to have some sort of retail area for accessories and decor. We'll see soon enough.

It's our last gas price survey of August and possibly summer. We're in the camp that once you hit September, it's no longer summer.
Anyway, the cheapest gas today in Northeast Mississippi is at Sam's Club, according to a Daily Journal survey.
It was $3.47 today for members at Sam's. The figure is down from $3.51 Tuesday and up from $3.37 Friday.
Overall, gas prices have been on a rollercoaster all week, courtesy of Hurricane Isaac (previous coverage).
Most expensive: Amory & Oxford $3.67
--
Other prices:
Amory $3.67
Belden $3.55
Booneville $3.48
Corinth $3.51
Fulton $3.48
New Albany $3.53
Oxford $3.67
Pontotoc $3.52
Ripley $3.57
Sam's Club (member price) $3.47

Read the Sunday Journal for more prices.

Reminder: This survey is designed to find the cheapest gas. The cities with the "most expensive" title are the ones that came in at the bottom of our cheapest gas list. There are other stations with more expensive gas, but we aren't hunting for that. We're looking for the station where you are going to spend the most money when you want to find cheap gas. Make sense?
Lots of inspections this week.
Plus, it looks like we have a new restaurant opening in the former Flowerdale Marketplace. It's called Sweet Tea & Biscuits, according to the health department records.
----
The state Department of Health regularly inspects restaurants and food facilities.
The facilities are graded from A to C. “A” is the best. “C” is the equivalent of failing, but the inspection isn’t bad enough to merit the closure of the restaurant.
The following Lee County facilities were inspected between Augut. 23 and Thursday.
The facilities are listed as they are in the MSDH system, even if there are typos.

From the OCRegister.com (full story):
A few days ago, Taco Bell invited The Register and the folks at the Foodbeast blog to the chain's Irvine test kitchen to try what could be the next two flavors for the wildly popular Doritos Locos Tacos brand.
Since debuting in March, Taco Bell said it has sold more than 200 million crunchy tacos served with a Doritos nacho cheese shell.
The taco is the most successful product launch in Taco Bell's 50-year history, and is responsible for a long overdue boost in Taco Bell revenue. The re-invented taco is made with a nacho cheese-flavored Doritos shell. The $1.29 taco is stuffed with seasoned beef, lettuce and tomatoes and served in a Doritos-branded "taco jacket" or holster.
Wanting to parlay the success of the Doritos taco launch, Taco Bell is considering its next shell flavors -- Flamas and Cool Ranch.
The two flavors are being tested in various regions, including some Taco Bell restaurants in Orange County. The chain declined to reveal the test locations. There's no guarantee the flavors will roll out, Taco Bell said. However, it's been widely speculated that Cool Ranch will be the next flavor.
During the taste test, I enjoyed the chili lime flavor of the Flamas taco shell over the less interesting Cool Ranch shell. The Flamas offered a two-dimensional flavor experience. At first, you taste a hint of lime with a bit of classic dusty red Doritos spice. Then, a blast of heat follows a few seconds later. It's a great pairing with Taco Bell's signature seasoned beef.

The governor's office and the attorney general's offices are keeping tabs on price-gouging, but the mandate does NOT apply to counties north of Highway 20.
Previous coverage (full text):
Monday evening, Bryant issued an order banning price gouging in south Mississippi during Isaac.
The order applies to all counties through which Interstate 20 passes, and all counties south of there.
Jan Schaefer, a spokeswoman for Hood, said at the news conference the AG's office already had 20 phone calls from people complaining about price gouging - mostly related to gasoline prices and one complaint about a motel.
In a statement, Bryant said, "Price-gouging is something to be taken seriously. Mississippians, especially those responding to the threat of emergency, deserve to be treated with integrity and fairness by businesses, and I fully expect businesses that operate in this state to act accordingly."
When the law is invoked, Hood said retailers can increase prices if their costs increase.
"Retailers just have to be careful to keep their profit margin consistent with what they were getting prior to the proclamation allowing us to enforce the statute," Hood said.
Hood said people can call his office a 1-800-281-4418 to file a complaint or go to the web site at www.agjimhood.com for more information.
We're expecting gas prices to go up with the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac. But so far, we haven't seen a jump.
Gas at Kroger at Crosstown was $3.53 Friday. It's the same price today, as of 3 p.m.
We'll be watching prices the next few days. If you see any jumps, let us know via a comment, email (carlie.wells@journalinc.com) or Twitter (@carlie_kollath).
Be safe out there, y'all.
