BLUE MOUNTAIN – Two former high school standouts from the Northeast Mississippi area signed baseball scholarships with Blue Mountain College on Monday.
Justin Jordan, a 5-year starter at Myrtle High, and Cody Brownlee, a member of the 2007 state champion Nettleton Tigers, will transfer to BMC in the fall for the Toppers’ first season of baseball competition.
Jordan, a middle infielder, hit .597 his senior year for the Hawks and led them in doubles, triples and hits while earning All-Division and All-S
tate honors. He was named most valuable player for Myrtle in his junior and senior seasons in both baseball and basketball, and spent last year at Northeast Mississippi Community College.
Brownlee, a first baseman and outfielder, played at East Mississippi Community College for two seasons after graduating from Nettleton. In his two years for the Lions, he hit .265 with nine doubles, one triple and three home runs, and drove in 43 runs.
“Justin and Cody have both played in successful programs,” said BMC coach Curt Fowler, “and that winning experience will be a big factor in building our program. We’re excited to have both these young men on our team.”
