BOONEVILLE — Aldermen in Booneville have voted to keep the city's storm shelters locked when there is not a threat of severe weather.

WTVA-TV reports that Mayor Joe Eaton told aldermen that based on calls and frustration by the public in the past, he decided to leave them unlocked.

However, in a 3-2 vote Tuesday, the board of aldermen approved locking the storm shelters. Aldermen decided keys to the shelters would be kept in all Booneville police patrol cars.

The Booneville city attorney says the change must be published in the local newspaper first. Then, 30 days after publication, the new rule will be in place.
