“I feel like I have something in common with everyone in the church,” he said, going on to explain he just has to work to figure out what that “common thread” is.
Haynes, his wife and their 12-year-old daughter had been living in Marietta, where Haynes had been preaching for about five years. The family came to Baldwyn after Mt. Olive lost its preacher.
“I was looking for a Southern Baptist Church that wanted to grow,” Haynes said.
The church’s mission is based on Ezra 7:10.
“For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the Lord and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel.”
“We basically try to study, practice and preach God’s word,” the pastor said.
Haynes’s favorite thing about leading the church is the people.
The church has a ministry called FISH that consists of four different teams. Each Monday, team members go out into the community to visit with guests who have visited the church and to invite others to come worship.
“If you visit with us, we’re gonna visit you,” Haynes said.
