James A. Keenon, 60, of 106 Glendale Drive, is charged with attempted aggravated assault. He is being held on $100,000 bond, according to Tippah County Jail records.
Authorities said Keenon was in an office at Big M Trucking about 5 p.m. when he became upset. He produced a .32 caliber revolver from his pocket, and fired one round in the direction of several employees.
He was arrested shortly afterward at the business by Tippah and Blue Mountain authorities.
As of late Wednesday morning, Keenon, a Democratic candidate, had not withdrawn from the sheriff’s race.
Primary elections are Tuesday, Aug. 2, and runoffs – if needed - will be Aug. 16.
