ABERDEEN – Former Jackson attorney Vann Frederick Leonard will serve a 37-month prison sentence for embezzlement.

U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock also sentenced him to pay $327,585 restitution to his client, from whom he stole the money.

The money came from an accident settlement after the woman declared bankruptcy.

The case began in the Southern District but was transferred to the Northern District.

Leonard was returned to the Rankin County Jail on Thursday to await additional legal actions against him, brought by other clients.

On Sept. 12, the Mississippi Supreme Court accepted his irrevocable resignation.

Aycock will hold off fining Leonard until he produces additional information to investigating authorities.
