Falkner girls continue streak

Brianna Williams made two free throws with 10 seconds left to lift the Falkner girls to a 38-36 win over Coldwater on Thursday in the MHSAA Class 1A North Mississippi quarterfinals.

The Lady Eagles (18-13) have won 11 of their last 12 and face Ashland tonight at 6 p.m. with a state tourney berth on the line.

“The girls have really bought into what we’re doing,” Falkner coach Jeremy White said. “We’ve played a tough, tough, tough schedule and we’re finally able to handle pressure.”

Williams scored a game-high 24 for Falkner.

(G) Gentry 51, Corinth 34: Aundrea Adams had 13 points for Corinth in 4A. Kristy Parker scored 14 for Gentry.

(B) Amanda Elzy 66, Houston 50: In 4A, Janarious Middleton scored 26 points for Elzy. Anquan Russell led Houston with 24. Chris Jones had 11.

(G) Potts Camp 72, Baldwyn 67: Potts Camp advances to the 2A North semis behind 28 from Tenesha Woods. Ayana Ragin led Badlwyn with 21.

(B) Corinth 64, New Albany 38: Raheem Sorrell scored 18, Jazz Garner 10 for Class 4A Corinth. Jarel Lipsey had 8 for New Albany.

(B) Coahoma AHS 65, Okolona 54: Okolon’s season ended despite 14 from Donovan Ivy and 13 from Rudell Fells.

(G) Byhalia 67, Belmont 59: The defending state 3Achampions ended at 21-10.
