The suspect, a male, was taken into custody late Friday night, Johnson said as of Saturday night, he plans to charge the suspect with aggravated assault, two charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Those charges could change if the condition of the victim changes.
Johnson said the female who was shot twice has had one surgery and is expected to need at least one more. She was in critical condition Saturday evening.
He said more information will be released Monday about the incident.
According to medics, the victim is a 50-year-old woman who had a gunshot wound in her side from a high-powered hunting rifle. Care Flight responded to the intersection of Highways 370 and 366 to transport her to North Mississippi Medical Center.
