COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — A former Mississippi resident is one of 15 contestants in this season of "Food Network Star," a reality TV competition show in which the winner gets their own cooking show on the Food Network.

Linkie Marais, a 2006 graduate of Mississippi University for Women, is a native of South Africa who has long had an interest in baking and decorating cakes. She moved to Tupelo, Miss., with her family when she was 16 and worked for a wedding company during high school decorating wedding cakes and catering food.

Marais later earned a degree in culinary arts from MUW in Columbus.
