There are a lot of things that go into making Swayze Field a neat place to watch college baseball. One addition this season has been the Mistone Dancers.

Andrew Mistone is a first-year junior college transfer and has quickly earned a reputation as a very good defensive third baseman.

His offense may be about to catch up, and that was the focus of today's update in the mother ship in our advance for the Ole Miss-Georgia series. Game 1 is tonight at 6:30, and will be televised on ESPNU.

Mistone had a great weekend at Kentucky, and maybe that will be a trend.

For the Swayze Field atmosphere, the more Mistone bats, the better.

“I'm a Mexican kid, and I grew up with Mexican music,” he says. “I can appreciate some good salsa music. Hopefully I can bring a little Latin fever to Swayze Field. It seems like it's been working.”

Indeed it has. Mistone's walk-up song has a beat unlike many of the others. Two men who sit behind home plate up near the photo deck have taken notice. They stand and respond with the appropriate dance moves each time Mistone bats and the song is played.

Mistone gave me the name of the group and the song the other day, but I was not culturally diverse enough to recognize it immediately in our conversation, and we went on to other things. When I realized I hadn't nailed him down on it, practice had begun. Another time perhaps.

As for the Mistone Dancers, he's communicated with them through Twitter a few times.

“Once when I was going up to the plate the other team was changing pitchers, so my walk-up song was still playing, and I happened to catch a glimpse of them up there. That's awesome. I'm glad they're into it and enjoy the song as much as I do.”
