Mitchell said the school bus had stopped to let off students at a house when the small Green Serv company truck, of Oxford, ran into the back of the bus.
“The driver said he fell asleep,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell said that ambulance personnel responded to the scene and checked out the students, but no one appeared to be injured.
The school bus, which was being driven by Pontotoc City School Maintenance Superintendent Wally Windham, was not damaged by the collision, Mitchell said.
“After all the kids were checked out, the school bus resumed its route,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell said that school superintendent Karen Tutor was on scene, along with school resource officer Kevin Rodgers and personnel director Jay Hughes.
The accident occurred at 3:36 p.m. approximately a mile west of the Pontotoc city limits.
