Northeast Mississippi Community College sophomores Craig Bullock of Blue Springs and Amber Williamson of Myrtle were selected to participate in the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program (MRPSP). Bullock and Williamson were selected from a candidate pool of sophomore college students from across the state for inclusion into the statewide program. Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program provides a means for rural Mississippi students to earn a seat in medical school, earn Medical CollegeAdmissions Test (MCAT) preparation valued at $2,000, earn a $120,000 medical school scholarship in return for four years of service and learn the art ofhealing from practicing rural physicians. (left), Williamson, Bullock and Northeast physics instructor George Nock were on hand at the collegeís Phi Theta Kappa chapter of the Iota Zeta honor societyís annual Honors Day Program were Bullock and Williamson learned about their inclusion into the program.

Bullock is the son of James and Emma Bullock of Blue Springs. Williamson is the daughter of Bobby and Lisa Williamson of Myrtle.
Created in 2007, the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program identifies college sophomores who demonstrate the necessary commitment and academic achievement to become a competent, well-trained rural primary care physician in Mississippi.
Two years of undergraduate academic enrichment include Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) preparation and alongitudinal rural clinical experience is provided for up to 20 students per year. Upon completion of all medical school admissions requirements, Bullock and Williamson will be admitted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s School of Medicine through Direct Entry.
During medical school, each Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program scholar may receive $30,000 per year based on available funding. Additional benefits include personalized mentoring from practicing rural physicians and academic support.
Upon completion of medical training, MRPSP Scholars must enter a residency program in one of five primary care specialties: family medicine, general internal medicine, medicine-pediatrics, OB/GYN or pediatrics. The Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program Scholar must provide four (4) years of service in a clinic based practice in an approved Mississippi community of 20,000 or fewer located more than 20 miles from a medically served area.
