CORINTH – A gathering to celebrate the life of Ann Jennings Whitfield is set for 1 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Corinth with Bro. Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Whitfield died on Thursday morning, Nov. 15, 2012, at Whitfield Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. She was born in St. Louis, Mo., on April 25, 1932, to the late Jack and Eleanor Jones Jennings. She moved to Corinth as a child and graduated from Corinth High School. She then furthered her education at Judson College in Marion, Ala., where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She was the publicity director and instructor of English there at the college. Following this, she performed a graduate study in journalism and received her Master's Degree from the University of Mississippi. She was also a co-owner of Whitfield Nursing Home.
She was a passionate supporter of animal rights. She served on the board of the Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter, and provided funding for the building and furnishings of the visiting room that has been named in her honor. She has been an active member of First Baptist Church since 1955, sang in the choir and was a featured soprano. She has served as president of the Little Garden Club of Corinth, Shakespeare Club, Corinth Music Club and the Twentieth Century Club. She was also the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of Corinth Theater Arts, a recipient of four Magnolia "Maggie" Awards and the recipient of one of the Rotary's highest honors - a Paul Harris Fellow.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Maury Whitfield.
Her survivors include her daughter, Jennie Whitfield Hibbard and husband, Jack; one granddaughter, Jacqueline Hibbard; one brother-in-law, Winston Whitfield and wife, Genida; a niece, Lynda Whitfield; two nephews, Whit and Benjamin Whitfield; a cousin, Margaret Huntley; and special friends, Jimmy Deaton and the staff of Whitfield Nursing Home.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church. McPeters Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to the Corinth-Alcorn County Animal Shelter or the American Cancer Society.

FULTON – Larry Eugene “Cowboy” Moore, 68, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Jan. 28, 1944, in Mississippi to Guy and Sybil Stephens Moore. He was employed by the Fulton City Water Department for 14 1/2 years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jackie Gray officiating. Burial will be in Harden Chapel Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Martha Moore of Fulton; daughters, Brenda Cummings (Mark) of Shannon, Wanda Carter (Howard Murphy) of Fulton and Stephanie Roberts (Adam) of Baldwyn; grandchildren, Haley Carter, Lee Carter, Santanna Cummings, Mark Cummings Jr., Josh Roberts, Loren Roberts and Brittany Tubbs; brothers, Jerry (Linda) Moore of Fulton and Eddie (Cathaleen) Moore of Houston; and a special friend, Mary Jo Hester.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

FULTON – Sandra Lynn Johnson, 58, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Feb. 3, 1954, in Pontotoc County to Elvis and Hazel Sprayberry Austin. She was a 1972 graduate of South Pontotoc High School, where she was the school’s first valedictorian. She worked at the telephone company in Tupelo. She later went back to school and became a registered nurse. She worked at North Mississippi Medical Center until becoming disabled. She loved the outdoors and was an avid reader. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at County Line Baptist Church in Pontotoc County with Bro Jimmy Dale Sartin and Bro. Bill Adams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Johnson; one son, Skip Johnson ( Dina); two daughters, Patricia Ross and Penny McAnally, all of Fulton; one brother, Scott Austin ( Julie ) of Randolph; one sister, Rita Jenkins of Tupelo; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Jacob and Alex Johnson, Anna and Taylor Patton, Cody Ross, Abby Chaffin and Chelsey Cunningham; and one great-grandchild, Charley Beth Cunningham.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Ben Austin, David Austin, L.C. Austin, Larry Austin, Chris Jenkins and Brian Jenkins.

BOONEVILLE – Helen Inez Bratton, 88, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Booneville. She was self-employed before retiring. She loved helping others, and she enjoyed hunting and fishing.

BOONEVILLE – Blanche Henson, 98, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at her home in the Altitude community. She was born Feb. 15 1914, in Jacinto to Clay and Jessie Hardin Henson. She moved to Altitude when she was 7 years old. She attended Hills Chapel and Burton Schools, Wood Junior College and Delta State Teacher’s College. She taught in the Prentiss County, Vicksburg Academy and the Booneville School Districts and retired after 31 years at Booneville Elementary School. She was a member of Chandler’s Chapel Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rickey Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery.
She is survived by one brother, Clyde Henson; two nieces, Kay (Rickey) Johnson and Carolyn (Larry) Nolan; one great-niece, Amy (Matt) Arnold; one great-nephew, Josh Johnson; and one great-great-nephew, Kaden Arnold.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Inez Bush and Jewel Henson; and one brother, Junior Henson.
