OXFORD — Lafayette County has renamed a portion of Old Sardis Road for a cyclist who was killed while biking there a year ago.

The Oxford Eagle reports that the dedication was Wednesday at the county chancery court building in Oxford.

Lawmakers approved the renaming of the 4-1/2-mile stretch of road on Mississippi Highway 314, locally known as Old Sardis Road, as the "Kevser Ermin Memorial Highway."

A "ghost bike," a bicycle painted white, has been erected on the south side of the road where Ermin died.

The 27-year-old Ermin was killed Oct. 7, 2011, when struck by a vehicle from behind. No charges were filed in the incident.

Ermin was a doctoral student at the University of Mississippi at the time of her death.
