There were 45 former SEC players on major league opening-day 25-man rosters and Ole Miss led the way with six big-leaguers.

That number will increase to seven when pitcher Drew Pomeranz is added by the Colorado Rockies for Sunday’s start against Arizona.

The Rebels on opening-day rosters: OF Chris Coghlan (Miami), SS Zach Cozart (Cincinnati), P Lance Lynn (St. Louis), P Matt Maloney (Minnesota), OF Alex Presley (Pittsburgh) and OF Seth Smith (Oakland).

There were three Mississippi State players on opening-day rosters: P Paul Maholm (Cubs), 1B Mitch Moreland (Texas) and P Jonathna Papelbon (Philadelphia).

Former Bulldogs All-American Buck Showalter is the Baltimore Orioles’ manager.

Tennessee and Vanderbilt each had five players on opening-day rosters. Alabama, Arkansas, Florida and LSU had four each.
