Tuesday afternoon Johnson made it official, telling RebelGrove.com, the Ole Miss Rivals site, that "rumors and speculation" made him want to end his recruiting process. He said he had already given a private commitment to Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt.
LSU made a late push for Johnson, who had previously given a verbal commitment to Mississippi State, only to back off amid change on the Bulldogs' coaching staff with the exits of assistant coaches Marc Hudspeth and Manny Diaz.
Johnson, a five-star prospect, is rated by Rivals as the nation's No. 21 player, the No. 2 linebacker.
