The determination was made after officers responded to a call Friday around 9:15 p.m. about a possible armed robbery.
Capt. Rusty Haynes on Monday said no one was hurt and it's unclear what transpired before the 911 call was made.
"No shots were fired that we can determine," he said. "We can't say for sure it even happened."
Haynes said the investigation found that the event was not random and that moviegoers shouldn't be afraid.
"If you're going about your law-abiding business, you should have a safe holiday," he said.
Friday night, police were searching for an alleged suspect in a black SUV. The suspect was described by those filing the report as a black man in a black hoodie with different colored writing on the front. He was about 5-foot 9-inches tall, wearing dark pants and a goatee. The people reporting it to police said he showed a silver revolver.
