Elston Turner, son of the fifth-leading scorer in Ole Miss history, lit up the Rebels with 37 points for Texas A&M in a 69-67 loss in College Station. Ole Miss rallied later in the week – literally – for an 84-74 overtime win against Georgia. The Bulldogs had an eight-point lead 3 minutes, 37 seconds left in regulation.

Marshall Henderson led five Ole Miss players in double figures against Georgia, going 14-for-14 from the free throw line to finish with 25 points.

Looking ahead

The Rebels are at South Carolina on Wednesday night at 6. CSS will televise the game. Ole Miss hosts Auburn at 4 p.m. Saturday for a Fox Sports Net broadcast.

Who’s hot

Reggie Buckner posted two double-doubles last week, getting 13 points and 15 rebounds at Texas A&M, then 10 points and 10 rebounds at home against Georgia.

Who’s not

Senior forward Murphy Holloway can’t seem to post the rebound numbers he did earlier in the season. Holloway, the school’s career-rebounding leader, had five rebounds against both Texas A&M and Georgia and has not reached double-figure rebounds since Jan. 26 against Auburn.

Bottom Line

Andy Kennedy and his players spoke openly of their hope that the emotional comeback win against Georgia will be the spark that leads them to a strong regular season finish. It very well may be, but a strong finish won’t come from emotion alone. The Rebels have to show improvement in defense and rebounding.
