PLANTERSVILLE – Plantersville police have arrested Anthony Turner, 23, of Tupelo on a charge of rape. Crack cocaine was also recovered during the investigation and those charges are pending, according to Police Chief Maury Schuh.

Turner is accused of raping an acquaintance who was giving him a ride home from a Tupelo night club early Sunday morning. According to Schuh, the woman tried to flee but was caught and raped.

Police arrested Turner at the residence of relatives Sunday afternoon. About $50 worth of crack cocaine was recovered at the scene.

Turner was in the Lee County Jail on Monday awaiting arraignment.
