Rebel netter through to Elite Eight in NCAA tennis singles

ATHENS, Ga. – Ole Miss men’s tennis sophomore Marcel Thiemann advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Thiemann, ranked No. 33 in the nation, defeated 12th-ranked Eric Quigley (9-16 seed) of Kentucky in three sets (7-6(4), 3-6, 6-2) to move onto the final eight in his first ever NCAA appearance.

Up next for Thiemann is Stanford’s Bradley Klahn, who was the 2009 ITA National Rookie of the Year. The two will square off today at 11 a.m.

Rebels women: The Ole Miss women’s tennis team’s season came to an end Friday in the NCAA Individual Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

In singles, Kristi Boxx lost to the No. 4 seed, Hillary Barte (Stanford), in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
