OXFORD - The R.J. Hively bullpen story took a new and unfortunate turn for Ole Miss late Friday night.

The No. 24-ranked Rebels' former starter, nearly untouchable in relief in two wins the last two weekends, gave up a home run in the eighth inning, allowing No. 4 LSU to extend the game and win 4-3 in 13 innings before a Swayze Field crowd of 9,551.

Game 2 in the series is today at 2.

Grant Dozar's eighth-inning home run, his third of the season, bounced on top of the left field wall before going over, eluding the reach of the Rebels' Tanner Mathis.

Dozar wasn't finished. He also drove in the go-ahead run with one out in the top of the 13th. Raph Rhymes, the nation's leading hitter at .503 coming into the game, drew a one-out walk, went to third on a base hit by Tyler Moore and scored easily on Dozar's infield hit, a ground ball to short.

Rhymes finished the game 2 for 5.

With Ole Miss a run down in the bottom of the 13th, LSU closer Nick Goody gave up a one-out walk to Austin Anderson but struck out Auston Bousfield and got pinch-hitter Sikes Orvis to pop-up on the infield.

Hively hung enough zeroes on the board for the Rebels to win it long before Dozar's encore plate appearance.

Before the Tigers (37-10, 15-7 SEC) won it, Ole Miss (30-17, 10-12) squandered multiple chances to take Game 1 of the series.

Three times in the extra innings, the Rebels had the potential winning run at second base with less than two outs and failed to get the run home. Ole Miss went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position in the extra innings.

The Rebels had their best hitter at the plate with a chance to drive in the winning run with two outs in the 10th, but Alex Yarbrough, who began the night hitting .417, swung at pitch low in the zone for strike three, and Preston Overbey was left at second. Yarbrough fouled off a ball up in the zone to fall down in the count 0-1.

Yarbrough missed another opportunity in the 12th when he again swung and missed at a low pitch for the second out. He finished the game 0 for 6.

After Yarbrough fanned in the 12th, LSU coach Paul Mainieri intentionally walked Matt Snyder to get to Austin Knight. The freshman made good contact, but his line drive went straight to shortstop Austin Nola, and three runners were stranded.

Hively had not pitched five innings since Game 3 at Kentucky, an 8-3 Ole Miss loss on April 8. He went six innings with four hits and two earned runs.
