Reservations can be made on the airline’s website at www.gosilver.com, but passengers can only book the round-trip portions of their trip.
Customers wanting to fly beyond Atlanta will have to go to Tupelo Regional Airport’s website at www.flytupelo.com and click on the quicktrip.com link on the site’s front page, or visit other online travel sites such as Expedia.
According to airport Executive Director Josh Abramson, Delta.com will be available by Oct. 1 so that passengers can book directly with the carrier online.
Silver and Delta have said they are working on their e-ticketing systems to make that possible.
In the meantime, passengers can call Delta Reservations at (800) 221-1212 to book flights now.
Passengers should note that their reservations will say “Island Air,” even though it is Silver Airways that they’ll be flying. The reason is that Silver has an agreement with Island Air for access to the airline industry’s global distribution system, officials said.
And passengers will have to be a little more patient as Silver works out its details with the multitude of travel websites.
Kayak and Travelocity, for example, don’t have any flights listed out of Tupelo.
“All the websites have their own way of doing things, but Silver is working with them to get those issues resolved,” Abramson said. “And while you can’t go on Delta’s website for a flight out of Tupelo until October, you can call Delta and schedule a flight.
“We’re all trying to make this as convenient as possible for passengers, and Silver is working with each company one at a time to get it right. It’s important that we continue air service out of Tupelo, and we’re working with them.
Abramson said passengers who fly out of Tupelo will only have to go through security once, and that’s at Tupelo Regional. In Atlanta, Silver’s gate will be in terminal E, the former international terminal.
In other news, the new 650-foot runway extension should be completed and operational before the end of the year.
Airport Operations Director George Smith said additional paving and work will be done in the next few weeks, allowing the project to be finished by early to mid-December.
“We’re ahead of schedule right now, and that’s what we’re looking at if the weather cooperates,” he said.
The $5.2 million project will lengthen Tupelo Regional’s runway from 6,500 feet to 7,150 feet.
