The final SEC series of the season begins tonight at 6:30.
Ole Miss (34-19, 14-13 SEC) lost 10-5 at Arkansas State on Tuesday, following last weekend’s sweep of Tennessee.
The Rebels are looking to further solidify their status with the NCAA selection committee.
Vanderbilt (26-25, 13-14) must finish one game above .500 with its overall record to be considered for an NCAA at-large bid.
Both teams have secured spots in next week’s SEC tournament in Hoover, Ala.
Sophomore left-hander Kevin Ziomek will replace freshman Tyler Beede in the Game 3 spot.
“They’ve got a lot of young arms, but they’ve been pitching a lot better of late,” Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said. “I think that’s one of the reasons they struggled in the beginning.”
Beede, drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays last year, was the only first-round pick to attend college. He gave up five hits and three runs in 32⁄3 innings against LSU, but Vanderbilt rallied to win the game in 10 innings.
Ziomek followed Beede with 32⁄3 innings, allowing just one hit and an unearned run with four strikeouts.
