Josh Thompson would agree with that.
The country singer-songwriter has spent much of 2012 on the road and writing new tunes in preparation for his second record, due in 2013.
“I write a ton on the road,” he said in a phone interview with the Daily Journal. “I had to adapt; I had to learn to write on the road. But now I think I write some of the best songs on the road. There’s a lot of downtime. It’s really turned out to be one of my favorite places to write.”
This year has taken Thompson all over the country.
“It’s been a crazy busy year with tour dates. I’ll end around mid-December, and that’ll bring me to about 200 shows this year,” he said.
One of those tour dates is the Country in the Park show at Ballard Park. He’s headlining the show that features area country bands like Jonathan Singleton & the Grove, Jamie Davis & Soul Gravy and Hobo Hippie.
“It’s a really high-energy show. We like to keep things upbeat and rocking. We don’t find anybody falling asleep,” he said, laughing.
At Country in the Park, Thompson’s fans can expect to hear a few hits like “Way Out Here,” “Beer on the Table” and “Comin’ Around,” and a few surprises.
“We’ll play a few new songs to get people’s opinions,” he said.
Thompson will do what he does best – write and perform live – throughout the rest of the year. Once things are in place, he said, he can go into the studio and fans can expect new music soon after.
“We’re writing and planning,” he said. “It makes it a lot easier to make a record if you have your ducks in a row.”
