TUPELO – A heat record was broken in Tupelo today.

According to Andy Chiuppi, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Memphis, the temperature detected at Tupelo Regional Airport hit 76 degrees.

The record was last hit in 2000 at 71 degrees.

The warm weather won’t stick around long though. Chiuppi said a cold front will move through Sunday night and bring temperatures down about 20 degrees.

“Pretty cold air is going to come down on Monday morning,” he said. “Highs might hit 40 next week, and will get back to normal with mid-50s by next week.”
