TUPELO - Tupelo Interim Superintendent David Meadows will retire on May 31.

Tupelo's school board accepted Meadows' retirement letter during Tuesday's school board meeting. Meadows, who had come out of retirement in January, had previously said he would stay as long as incoming superintendent Gearl Loden needed his help on the transition.

"I've been very humbled to have been afforded this opportunity to serve the children and young people of our school district and work with the greatest group of educators in the state of Mississippi and the country," said Meadows, who has 41 years of experience in education.
