Lee County municipalities had several unopposed party candidates on the ballot in Tuesday's primaries.

In Tupelo City Council races, Democrat Patricia Griffin received 104 votes in Ward 1; Shelia Nabors, Ward 2 Democrat, 145 votes; George Witherspoon, Ward 3 Democrat, 193 votes; and Ward 4 Republican Rhonda Betts, 172 votes.

In the general election, Griffin will face Republican Markel Whittington; Nabors will oppose Republican Fred Pitts; Witherspoon will meet Republican Jim Newell; and Betts will challenge incumbent Democrat Nettie Davis.

In Saltillo, Republican incumbent Bill Williams (331 votes) and Paul Turner, a Democrat (423 votes) were unopposed as mayoral candidates. They will face independent Russell Board in the general election.

Nettleton's unopposed candidates, all incumbent Democrats, were Mayor R.V. Adams (426 votes), City Clerk Bill Tapscott (429 votes) and Alderman at large Kirk Lindsey (417 votes). None has an opponent in the general election.

No party primaries were held in Verona, Plantersville, Sherman and Guntown, because all candidates are running as independents.
