“There are two main political parties in the United States. The Republican party insists on trying to "force" voters to think the way the party wants them to think. When the Republicans "lose" elections, the party leaders invariably claim the loss came about because voters are stupid.

The Democrats run their party differently. They pay close attention to actual demographics, not imaginary demographics. The Democrats pay close attention to what actual voters think and want and they do not try to force their base into believing outmoded ideas.

You can disagree with this analysis, but take a close look at the last two presidential races and you can see the results clearly. Newt is right about the Republican needing new ideas, but when you have people like Sarah Palin, Phyllis Schlafly, Victor Cruz, Rick Santorum and Rand Paul hysterically telling people they need to be "more" conservative, not "less" conservative, it's a lost cause for sanity.”
