Brian Dozier, the former Itawamba AHS and Southern Miss standout, has been in the major leagues for a couple of weeks as the Minnesota Twins' shortstop. So far, so good.

Through Sunday, Dozier was hitting .292 (17 of 61) with two home runs. The Twins, who had the worst record in the big leagues before Dozier was called up, are 7-7 in games where he's started.

Playing one of the tougher spots in the field, Dozier had just one error in his first 14 games. And it seems significant to me that he has hit safely in 11 of his 14 starts.

It's still a small sample size – through Sunday, he had only played in three stadiums, against five opponents – but it's a good start for a highly regarded prospect who will have every opportunity to hold his spot in the lineup for a team that's been starved for something to cheer.
