The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association is moving forward with its road enhancement project after FEMA gave the go-ahead today.
The Main St. Assoc. turned in an application last year to FEMA to widen the bridges between Highway 45 and Veteran's Boulevard. The request was to widen the bridges at their current height, instead of elevating the bridge.
FEMA today OK'd the application, according to Debbie Brangenberg, executive director of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association.
"We have a positive conclusion and we're happy to report it," she said at the meeting (read the liveblog here).
The project now goes to Tupelo-based Engineering Solutions Inc. for design. Jon Milstead, of the Community Development Foundation, said the goal is to let the bid by the end of the year.
