From CommercialAppeal.com (full story):

Memphis International Airport will dangle $1 million in incentives for new air service in a move to fill a breach left by Delta Air Lines’ hub downsizing.

The Airport Authority today approved the incentives, which would include waivers of landing fees and terminal rent for 12 months along with marketing assistance.

The move comes amid a chorus of criticism about high fares and reduced service at the airport.

Airport officials, who also approved landing fee and terminal rent increases today, said the $1 million would come from a reserve fund not affected by the operating budget.

Officials said the incentives would be available to both incumbent airlines like Delta as well as newcomers like Southwest Airlines for new service to the top 50 destinations from Memphis.
