JACKSON, Miss. — Debbie Brangenberg was recently honored at the 2012 National Main Street Conference for her long-term career in Main Street.
Brangenberg has 23 years of service as a Main Street professional in Mississippi and has served as the executive director of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association since 1991.
Main Street directors with more than 20 years experience were recognized for their leadership in front of 1,200 of their peers at the national conference in Baltimore.
“The National Trust for Historic Preservation commends Debbie for her commitment to making America’s historic downtowns stronger and brighter,” said Doug Loescher, director of the National Trust Main Street Center. “Her work to preserve and revitalize downtown Tupelo is greatly appreciated and respected."
Brangenberg was honored with the 2010 Charles O. Beasley Award from the Mississippi Main Street Association in recognition of her outstanding service to the local and state Main Street program.
Her many notable achievements include coordinating the brownfield redevelopment project of downtown Tupelo's Fairpark District, which won a Phoenix Award for Excellence in Brownfield Redevelopment in 2009.
The Tupelo Elvis Festival has grown tremendously under Brangenberg's leadership and is one of many successful annual events hosted in downtown Tupelo.
"Debbie is a frequent speaker in state and regional Main Street workshops and we depend heavily on her leadership and insight into running a successful Main Street organization," said Bob Wilson, Executive Director of the Mississippi Main Street Association. "Tupelo was selected as the 2011 destination for our regional Destination Downtown conference in part because of Debbie and her staff's statewide influence and strong local support."
