Bryce Drew Pulls Name from MSU Search

Bryce Drew has will not be Mississippi State's next men's basketball coach.

The Northwest Indiana Times' Paul Oren just tweeted out a quote from Drew, as follows: "I have pulled my name for consideration for Mississippi State." That's all he had to say tonight to the reporter.

Drew interviewed with MSU on Monday in Atlanta, according to ESPN.com's Jason King. Drew's father-in-law, Keith Thibodeaux, confirmed to me earlier today that Drew did indeed speak with State.

So ... now what? MSU has whiffed on Steve Prohm, John Groce – that I know. Two other names I've heard are still in the running: Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne and Mississippi Valley State head coach Sean Woods. Tomorrow will mark two weeks since Rick Stansbury resigned after 14 years at the helm.

The casual observer knows just as much about this topic as Brad Locke. Anybody can read other people's work and report on it. His choice of words -- "whiffed" -- shows he's still an amateur. If he hasn't learned about the behind-the-scenes stuff by now, he hasn't learned much since his high school coverage days.

I just read the profiles of Kenny Payne and Sean Woods, and I like them both. I would be happy if either became the next MSU coach, and would not be worried at all that we "whiffed" on Prohm, Groce, and Drew. With the playing and coaching experience of either Payne or Woods, I think they could succeed at MSU, and hopefully keep the 5 recruits that we have signed.

The Mstate basketball program is one the top 5 hoops jobs in the SEC. A helluva lot better than the Rebelbear program in Oxfart. The Rebelbear hoops program ranks...well dead last. As a matter of fact I would say that if one was to average out the sports programs at each of the 14 schools, I am afraid the Rebelbears would rank..well, 14th. The Rebelbears are the the most pathetic program in the SEC and should be replaced by one of Louisiana's directional schools. It would be a step up for the SEC

Hey Kevorkian,

You are an idiot. My sources tell me that Kenny Payne is the man that Stricklin has wanted from the start, but has interviewed others, just in case one of them really impressed him. Mstate has not be jilted nor have they whiffed. Stricklin knows that the politically correct thing to do is interview others, but also tell them that the job has already been filled and we are waiting on the tourny to finish. It helps the coach save face, by withdrawing his name, that way it doesn't look like he was turned down. Get in the new century dufuss, ohh I mean Jack Kevorkian...ginblossom

They want to talk to Kenny Payne with Kentucky, but they are still in the tournament. MSU officials will be at final 4 and will try to talk to Kenny. Could be worse, we could have a coach that will be in his 7th season and still hasn't smelled the NCAA tournament.
