To help you and I get through the drudgery of August, I will present in this space a daily scoop of MSU football-ness, as inspired by a certain ice cream chain. August has 31 days, so I'll let you work it out from there. Here is today's flavor.

As a journalist, I have to guard against liking a player or coach too much. Personal feelings can endanger professional objectivity, so one tries to keep himself at a certain distance from those he covers. However, I have no problem with being ga-ga over certain personality traits.
Take Corey Broomfield. The senior cornerback has one of the most infectious, mirthful laughs I've ever heard. Every time he chuckles, unicorns trot past and dictators throw money at peasants. The world laughs with Broomfield; or at least, we reporters do. Plus, he's a really good quote (and a really good player), so we request him for interviews quite often.
It's hard to adequately describe Broomfield's laugh, so I isolated a sampling from an interview we did with him during Egg Bowl week last year. He was responding to a question about the specialty uniform being modeled by a skinny mannequin in the Bryan Building, and, well, CLICK HERE to listen.
See what I mean? It's rather child-like, and it speaks to Broomfield's personality. He's a laid-back guy who likes to smile and laugh, and it's hard for even a cynical journalist like me to not admire that golden giggle.
