Mississippi State has announced a big number for private giving in the 2010-11 fiscal year: $37.6 million. That's a school record and a $20.2 million jump from last year.

The giant increase is due in large part to fundraising related to the planned Leo Seal Jr. Football Complex, which will cost between $20-25 million. The Seal family has given $12 million, and so far $20.2 million has been given toward the complex. The $37.6 million includes one-time gifts and yearly multi-year pledges.

Last year MSU raised $17.4 million through the Bulldog Club. Other recent totals, per athletics director Scott Stricklin: $14.9 million in 2008-09, $11.6 million in 2007-08, $9.2 million in 2006-07.

This news comes a day after MSU announced that the university as a whole had received a record $80 million in private gifts.

In a statement, Stricklin said, "These record fundraising totals are a result of the many people throughout our state and beyond who love this university. Our university is in the midst of record enrollment, record giving and record ticket sales, each of those highlights how unified we all are in pushing Mississippi State forward into the future."
