There was much learned Monday at MSU's preseason media day. The event marked the next phase in August camp, as the Bulldogs are now completely out of public view – no fans, no media, nobody but team personnel from here on out.
And that isolation is the topic of my main story in today's Journal. This is the time of year when coach Dan Mullen morphs from PR circuit Dan into circle-the-wagons Dan. Not that he'll ever miss an opportunity to get his and MSU's message out there, but he tends to hunker down when the games draw near.
In today's notebook, I look at left tackle James Carmon, cornerback Johnthan Banks, the No. 2 quarterback situation, and defensive coordinator Chris Wilson. That gives you just a sampling of what I gathered yesterday. Other stories/blog posts to look forward to in the coming days: Receivers coach Angelo Mirando, the cornerbacks, the defensive line, linebackers (and their coach, Geoff Collins), and I'll post a video later of kicker Derek DePasquale.
But wait, there's more! I had a chat with defensive lineman Devin Jones the other day and will have something on him, and don't forget about my continuing 31 Reasons series. Reason No. 9 will go up later today.
One more link for you: A nice story on cornerback Corey Broomfield, written by the Commercial Appeal's Ron Higgins, he of the bright yellow Nike shoes.
