Just when it looked like Rick Stansbury might leave MSU after 12 seasons as head coach, we have learned that he will remain in Starkville. He reportedly was interviewed by Clemson Saturday night and offered the school's head coaching job, but FOXSports.com and others – including a Clemson writer I've been speaking with – have confirmed that Stansbury will stay at State.

Jeff Goodman of FOXSports.com tweeted that Stansbury's buyout might have been why he and Clemson could not reach an agreement.

Stansbury has won 256 games at MSU and taken the Bulldogs to six NCAA tournaments, but never past the second round. Clemson recently lost Oliver Purnell, who left to take the DePaul job.

You can imagine how big a deal this would have been for MSU had Stansbury left. The school is already looking for a new athletics director with Greg Byrne soon leaving for Arizona. And Stansbury is firmly entrenched at the school and in the community, having been an MSU assistant for eight years.

Stansbury will address the local media at 2 p.m.
