MSU said this afternoon that Chad Bumphis, a sophomore receiver from Tupelo, has suffered a broken collarbone and will miss the bowl game. He should return in time for spring practice.

Bumphis suffered the injury during Saturday's 31-23 win over Ole Miss. It's another big loss for the receiving corps, as he leads the Bulldogs in receiving with 44 catches for 634 yards and five touchdowns.

Also, MSU said senior WR Leon Berry, who's been out since dislocating his ankle against Houston on Oct. 9, is doubtful for the bowl game; and junior TE Marcus Green, who had surgery on his knee Oct. 7, is out.

"All else is fine," the spokesman said.

State entered the season with depth issues at receiver, so those absences are huge, and missing Bumphis is further crippling to the passing game. Berry was the lone senior among the receivers, and Green was the team's second-leading ball-catcher in 2009.

A couple of sophomores, Arceto Clark (22 catches, 317 yards, 2 TDs), Brandon Heavens (20, 304, 2) and Chris Smith (20, 218, 1) have stepped up their games this season, but none have been go-to receivers.
