ATLANTA | It's the first week of June, and your two favorite college beat reporters are both far from home. That means big things must be happening.
Y'all know the deal: MSU will battle in-state rival Southern Miss at 2 p.m. Central today to open up NCAA Regional play at Georgia Tech's Russ Chandler Stadium. I'll have more on the matchup later today, but for now, here is tournament central on the Georgia Tech website.
It might interest you to know that Todd McInnis, who will start on the mound today for USM, has been named third-team Louisville Slugger All-American. Click on that link, and you'll be able to find USM's game notes, too.
• Meanwhile, Parrish Alford is still down in Destin, Fla., covering the SEC meetings from every angle. Today is the final and most important day, because the school presidents will vote on several key issues, including oversigning, basketball divisions and cowbells.
That latter issue is of greatest concern to MSU folks, of course. The coaches are all for keeping the Great Cowbell Compromise of 2010 just as it is, and the athletics directors have also thrown their support behind it. We might also find out how much MSU has been fined for non-compliance in 2010.
Parrish also had a lengthy notebook that covered, among other things, Rick Stansbury speaking out in favor of divisions.
I'll try to pass along any pertinent happenings, but be sure y'all give Parrish a follow on Twitter today.
