OK, we all know who's going to win this game, right? Sure, odd things can happen, but I don't expect MSU's homecoming to be spoiled Saturday by UT Martin, a 5-3 team from the Ohio Valley Conference.
The Skyhawks' three losses have come by a combined seven points, so of course State coach Dan Mullen has pointed out that they could easily be 8-0 right now. Yes, but they could just as easily be 4-4, having clipped Eastern Illinois 24-23 a couple of weeks ago.
So the question is, how badly will MSU defeat UT Martin? The latest line says 32 points, although it should be pointed out that State hasn't scored 30-plus since Week 2 at Auburn. Then again, this is a Division I-AA team we're talking about. The Skyhawks have some nice parts, but they are what they are: overmatched in every phase of the game.
What MSU fans are going to want to see isn't mere victory, but convincing victory. Dominance on offense, defense, special teams, coaching, everywhere. A 28-14 win or 21-7 win ain't gonna cut it. The Bulldogs should score at least 40, right?
Well, given the scoring struggles of late – they were better at Kentucky, though – I'm not 100 percent certain MSU will hit 40 on UT Martin. But I do expect a comfortable margin of victory.
My prediction: MSU 38, UT Martin 10.
