After two grueling practices yesterday, Ole Miss took the field to close out the second week of fall camp.  Coach Hugh Freeze said he expected lulls today, “I knew today would be a challenge because we went almost 200 full plays yesterday.  That was a meat grinder and we needed it.  I knew that this morning the after effects of that would be a challenge, but I do feel like we found a way to get some good stuff done.”

Here are some observations as the season is just 16 days away:

RB was supposed to be a position this season that was thin depth-wise, but it seems as the Rebels have built some solid depth there. Nick Parker had an outstanding day running the ball on some short yardage situations, and Devin Thomas did the same last night.  Freeze singled out Parker after practice and he was one I certainly noticed today. Those two, along with Jeff Scott, Randall Mackey, I’Tavius Mathers, and Jaylen Walton provide some solid depth.

Kickoff return duties looks to belong to Jeff Scott, Walton, Trae Elston, and Senquez Golson.

Punt Return has been mostly handled by Scott, Philander Moore, and Korvic Neat.

Neat is a guy I have noticed who has improved tremendously over the summer and into fall camp.  He is the number 1 slot guy right now and among the top 5 receiers in the rotation along with Donte Moncrief, Vincent Sanders, Ja-mes Logan, Neat and Philander Moore. After that Cody Core has impressed, but he is a guy who you would like to redshirt.

Two more true freshmen I have noticed are Issac Gross and Trae Elston  Both took snaps with the first team today and both will get immense playing time during the season.

Still no word on another freshman, DE Channing Ward, who is awaiting word from the NCAA Clearinghouse.

I can't find conformation about the FBS losing streak of 7 games anywhere. Alonzo, did you make that up?

hectoralonzo, UCA is in Conway. It just moved up from Division 2 to Div. 1 FCS a couple of years ago.

I read where Ole Miss has the nation's 3rd longest FBS losing streak at 7 games. Is Central Arkansas a FBS team or a FCS team? What city is Central Arkansas in? Dardenelle? That's where John Daly is from and lives now.

why is this Ward thing taking so long? Last I read, he had been cleared. That was in July, so why hasn't he been allowed to practice? The Love kid is a star in Starkpatch! You see his video on Locke's blog all the time. Has anybody even seen Ward on campus? PA, can you give us your best guess?

I expressed my concerns over Ward and J Love at MSU when they commited to college on being able to make the grades/have the grades. Having graduated from Aberdeen when it was still a good school in the 80's I know how far they had fallen before the state took them over.

I am not in the know, but what is it that has Ward stalled right now? ACT score, enough credits to have graduated or what?
