Update 3:12

Freshman DL Temario Strong has been cleared and is expected to join the team later today, the school has announced. We asked Hugh about this after the morning practice, and he said he was eager to get inside and check on it. The Rebels are still awaiting word from the NCAA on Channing Ward.

In what has become a consistent theme, it was another day for the defense.

If you're looking for a leader in the QB race between Barry Brunetti and Bo Wallace you need to keep looking. No one has stepped up to take a grip on that job yet. The two-QB system Hugh Freeze predicted last Friday seems well on its way to being in place for the Sept. 1 opener against Central Arkansas.

Freeze was not pleased with the consistency and decision-making of his quarterbacks. Those decisions led to interceptions or other bad plays numerous times today.

Among the defenders, a good day for Aaron Garbutt who made several plays in the backfield.

Wesley Pendleton had two interceptions, one when he batted a Brunetti pass and stayed with it, another when he made a correct read and sprinted in front of Vincent Sanders.

There were some highlights for the QBs and receivers in part of an installation segment where the QBs were working on throwing the face. Cody Core, Sanders and Terrell Grant had nice catches in the drill.

Sanders had a drop but also had another couple of nice catches on the day, one when he was guarded step for step by Dehendret Collins who tipped the ball but Sanders spun around, stayed with it and made the catch.

Freeze is trying to develop a second center who can consistently handle the shotgun snap, and that's not going well right now. He tried AJ Hawkins there today. Hawkins is a former center and has done this before but had too much velocity on his snaps. Freeze said Hawkins was rusty and will get better. There are no problems with the snap from No. 1 center Evan Swindall.

Also along the offensive line someone stepped on the Achilles of left guard Aaron Morris about midway through the workout. He was held out and Justin Bell finished the day there with the first team. Freeze said Morris is day to day.

Not to insult the Turtleman, but I believe he'd fit in better at a MSU game with his cut off clothing and missing teeth. Hell, it'd be like a family reunion in Starkville.

Former LSU signee and present backup QB for Mississippi Gulf Coast Communtiy College is returning to Oxford! Guess it's easier to start for Ole Miss, than to start for the Bulldogs of MGCCC. He will be the starter for blackbears in 2013. Interesting how he just decided, when both blackbear QBS are struggling. Thank goodness for cell phones. I bet Freeze made the call after yesterday's practice. lol

Channing Ward has been Cleared!!

Brunetti has had more batted balls than Derek Jeter. How tall..uh I mean just how short is this guy? Freeze needs to find him some platform cleats. I saw some on ebay and they were dirt cheap.
