VIDEO: Freeze after practice

The offense followed a good day on Wednesday with a decent day on Thursday. Maybe that's a start.

Quarterbacks Barry Brunetti and Bo Wallace both had some good passes and followed that up with bad ones, a mixed bag of results.

In the first competition period both quarterbacks stood in the pocket and completed passes in the face of the blitz. That was good to see.

Tight end Ferbia Allen had a good day catching the ball, and freshman WR Cody Core continues to catch the ball well.

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze mentioned Core in a group of receivers he's thought have done well this camp. That group was led by Vincent Sanders. He included Ja-Mes Logan as well but said production from Logan is expected.

Core has proven he can catch the ball, but that's just one part of understanding the offense and getting ready to play. “He's shown flashes, but when we're going fast he's swimming, as are the young tailbacks,” Freeze said.

If this was game week the Rebels would use as many as eight true freshmen, Freeze said. That number might be a little lower come actual game week depending on Charles Sawyer's health.

Sawyer (torn quad) remains out. Donte Moncrief is working his way back, and Jeff Scott was held out as a precautionary measure after a blow to the head on Wendesday. Freeze said Scott was "almost symptom-free" this morning. OL Aaron Morris (Achilles) remains out and is listed day to day.

Freeze says the most consistent freshman has been defensive lineman Issac Gross.

Another newcomer, junior college transfer cornerback Louis Covington was getting a good number of reps today and turned in one of several interceptions by the secondary.

Among the quarterback highlights in the tempo portion of practice were a touchdown drive led by Brunetti and a 50-yard touchdown pass on the first play by Wallace.

Wallace's pass went to Korvic Neat on a crossing pattern and resulted in some extra running for the first team defense.

Rebelman, my understanding is that they still expect him to be cleared. Haven't heard anything beyond that.

The USA girls soccer team won the gold today. Ole Miss's Brittney Reese won the gold this week. GO team USA.

The clearinghouse uses a "sliding scale", to make eligibility more uniform. They now allow a higher GPA core to reduce the SAT component. For an example if student has a GPA of 2.5, the student needs a SAT of 820. IF the student has a GPA of 2.75, the student needs a SAT of 720. I am not exactly aware of Ward's difficulty, I just know that this is how the system works. Your Welcome!

What a bummer for The Turtleman. Maybe he can walk-on?

I have just heard from my source in Indiana, that Ward has been cleared! They are just waiting for all the paperwork to go through the central office. Ward should be on the pratice field by Wednesday. Once the paperwork clears NCAA offices it then has to go by Slive's desk and get his OK! The whole process is 3 business days.
