One observer's early scouting report from a peek at basketball practice is that freshman guard Dundrecous Nelson and freshman center Demarco Cox will be "great." No word on exactly when they will arrive at great but sounds like they could make a quick impact.

This is an important year for Nelson. It could be his show next year as life after Chris Warren begins.

Among the returnees Zach Graham and Terrance Henry had really good fall work.

Indiana transfer Nick Williams has not disappointed. He sat out his transfer year last year, so from a practice standpoint the staff had an idea what they would see in Williams. No doubt his intensity level is up a bit since he can play this season.

Newcomers Steadman Short, Isaiah Massey and Donald Williams have gotten off to good starts and should all pick up key minutes early.

State is going to be missing Varnardo terribly early in the season. I don't know if that new guy can just step in and replace him right away.

We lost 2 of our top 3 players in Murphy Holloway and Terrico White. I don't know if those new guys can pick up that much slack.

JB, I think the Rebels can win the West, because I think the West is going to be pretty average.

The guards at Ole Miss and MSU will cancel out one another, but MSU has a little more experience returning in the post. Obviously, if Renardo Sidney is as good as advertised he'll give State a lift.

The Rebels have a lot of unknowns in the post but a chance to play well there too.

Churn, just watchin it on TV. My limit to see anything is about $50 per ticket. Anything above that and I feel like you are encouraging these corporations....and worshiping false Gods. LOL! Go Giants!

Churn, I think you are thinking of New Albany native, Eli Whiteside. He went to Delta State. He is still on the team as a back up for Posey. He saw some action over the season in pinch hitting situations and when they gave Buster the day off.

PA please forgive me, but I change the subject here for a moment, and concerning baseball. Last night I watched the 1st game of the WS. San Francisco Giants. Did they, the last time appearing in the World Series create an earthquake in San Francisco? Was watching that game as well. Will Clark first baseman. The catcher for the Gaints now have Buster Posey, a rookie, and a sensational baseball player while at Florida State. I wonder what happen to the Ole Miss Catcher that signed with the Gaints a few seasons back? Name??? now.

PA, you think the Rebs will be capable of winning the SEC West this season?

Heard rumors the other day that they could challenge Miss State for the West.

Florida and Kentucky in a shoot-out for the SEC East.
