Among many items Pete Boone addressed yesterday was the recently launched $150 million capital campaign.

Boone is adamant that the current state of the football program will not have an adverse effect on the school's ability to meet its long-term fund-raising goals.

“I would say I don't think there are any broken bones, but there are some bruises. The beginning of this year is certainly not the way most successful campaigns would take off, but the fact is, the campaign is bigger than a game, and it's bigger than a season. It's about Ole Miss' future. That's what I think our fans are focused on. Where are we going to be five years from now and 10 years from now? Yeah, we will have some times like this, and this won't be the only one probably in the next three years before we get it kicked off, but you have to look at what's in the best interest long-term for Ole Miss, and that's what this campaign is about. And we've had some very good initial success.”

He didn't offer any specifics on the bruises, and it may be too early to evaluate the long-term.

Long-term, as the name suggests, is a long way away. The campaign may not be affected by an embarrassing 30-7 to Vanderbilt, but there's a better than average chance it will be affected if problems aren't corrected.

Certainly something to keep an eye on.

The long-range plans for Vaught-Hemingway Stadium are exciting and, if enacted, will totally revitalize the stadium and enhance an already strong game-day atmosphere.

But those plans are on the back end of the capital campaign. There's immediate need for a basketball arena, and that's the first step with any money the campaign generates.

It doesn't really matter what your mascot is. Auburn obtained a national championship last year and they have 3 or 4 mascots. But the derision and obvious unhappiness of the Ole Miss family right now over the athletic programs and things like mascots and songs the band does or doesn't play leads back to the one calling the shots for the athletic programs. Everybody in the country can tell our house is definitely not in order now.

The same guy who said he's not worried about what the fans say or think about him says he's all about today and not the future (what???). And then turns around and asks fans and alumni to donate $150M to the school for facility expansions. I'm confused. Are we building these things today or in the future?

I agree that there is an obvious lack of desire from the players and coaches. But I think it was very foolish of the AD to call the coaches and team out publicly. He had every right to do it behind closed doors but when he did it publicly he basically wrote off the rest of the season. The coaches have no chance of getting the players back now. Smooth move Pete!

I am just a football fan wanting to help. You see, I am in the "people helpin' business" and it looks as though the rebel blackbear clan needs a "little helpin'".

Good luck to you ole miss fans up there in Rebel country. Its all you need now in this time of trouble is for Miss State fans to come to your aid with suggestions. Its a bit like trying to extinguih a fire with petrol. They are in a sinkin ship and would like you go down with them.

You have a good football coach in coach Nutt, your problem seems to be a problem in the AD a common denominator associated with baseball, basketball and football programs. hope you find meanful help soon.

Rich Rod wouldn't make it in this league. Would take a coach with some true grit. I still believe that Nutt should finish this year out. Im not sure who should relieve pete of his job but it's evident that he has to go asap. As far as a head coach I would love to see Skip Holtz. He is a top notch coach with true grit and integrity. He would get the talent here and be able to coach them up. I do like what Keith Burns and Gunter Brewer have done since they've been here. Without those 2 guys we would be a lot worse off right now.

Why I am doing this I do not know, but here is the plan to bring the rebel bear clan back to a comfortable position.

1. Hire Kent Austin as A.D.

2. Joe Pannunzio as Director of Fball ops

3. David Saunders to recruit

4. Scott Bennett as Strength coach

5. Head coach Rich Rodriguez

...and you are welcome.

After reading numerous blogs about the Ole Miss debacle that is our overall Athletic prowess, it is evident that there is absolutely NO confidence in our current Administration. That to me, screams that we desperately need new, fresh leadership that will pump some enthusiasm into our fans and coaches; one that will make forward thinking changes and that will make our coaches answer to their underperformance. Rebel Nation is in dire need of someone that can bring back a true sense of what it is to be a “proud” Ole Miss Rebel, not someone that doesn’t listen to what the fans have to say because he’s been an AD for 15 years. What kind of AD undermines his coaches by crashing a press conference and speaking about a “behind closed doors” conversation? I’ll tell you what kind, one that is trying to save his own tail and by doing so made himself look even worse.

I hear you ChisChis! The rebel blackbears should follow the blueprint laid out by Greg Byrne (former A.D. at MState). He could've served the Bulldog faithfull with another Jackie Sherrill, but he chose the path least traveled. You guys got to find yourselves a "Dan Mullen". Now, you are making sense. Heck, maybe you should be the next A.D. at The University of Oxfart.

Dan came in and excercised the demons. the rebel blackbears need an exorcism.

A.D. Boone "God doesnt guarantee us tomorrow.....so I dont want to focus on the future......we've won two cotton bowls in my 15 year career."

Coach James Franklin, "Im not interested in talking about the past, all I want to do is talk about the future of Vanderbuilt."

I say we get Paul Chryst or the Northwestern coach, but with Peter at the wheel, we will keep getting "proven winners" instead of youthful fire.

Do we not look to the future or we just about the past?

Spendin their money wisely and what the seeds sown produce, for example: new assistant coaches, led by Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis. Ole Miss OC David Lee. The Gators invested wisely. At start of season Gators mostly green recruits ands now have worked themselves up to 15th national wise.

Ole Miss in Gen Lee, just how did they spend their money? We have heard in General Lee one of the many reasons why ole miss will be better in 2011. Are they? they are on he border of going down to one of their worse season in history.

I would hope that some of the money is set aside to pay off Nutt and the rest of his staff and get them out of O town as fast as possible. Let Brewer finish this lost season. Does anyone really believe that the Rebel Blackbears have a chance of winning the next 5 games? Brewer can at least pump in some RED and Blue blood back into the program. Houston Nutt is a scam artist and should be treated as such.
