Let's try this differently.

If you have a question or comment regarding the Rebels – whether football camp or the basketball schedule -- just leave it here. I'll be checking the thread periodically, specifically around the noon hour.

There will be a light workout today in advance of tomorrow's 6 p.m., scrimmage that Houston Nutt has identified as important for the “pecking order” of his players.

Yesterday's workout was changed around some, the longer, more physical practice moved to mid-day and the afternoon practice cancelled to give the players a little bit of recreation.

Tomorrow's scrimmage is big at a lot of positions, especially quarterback. If Nutt really wants to focus on one guy for preparation with the first team leading up to the BYU game, it's about that time. Maybe one player will separate and make the call easier Saturday night.

Until then, it's Football Friday in Mississippi. We'll have our first throwdown in the office tonight, late deadlines to off-set 7:30 start times and heat timeouts in the high school games. I'll have score updates on Twitter.

Afternoon guys. I don't know what happened to the Sports Drive, but it ended rather abruptly. Someone told me Max Howell is doing a show down on the Alabama coast now, but I haven't gone looking for it.

Thanks RebelChris.

I remember them talking about Max's health last year, so maybe that's why I can't find it. Hope they are able to return. I don't tweet, but found a scoottspencer link.

Good Q&A, and PA is keeping me busy with all the updates on football.

I have a sports talk radio question. I used to listen to a local radio show last year but can't find it anymore. I think it was on Miss 98 or 97.5 and one of the hosts was a former Ole Miss and State coach, Max something? Does anyone know what happened to the show? Thanks

BYU was really playing well at the end of last season. They were not ranked in the coaches' preseason poll, but there's been quite a bit of buzz about this team.

It would not surprise me to see Ole Miss come out and play well and win, though I'm not calling that.

The defensive backs have looked better in practice, but I need to see them live. BYU quarterback Jake Heaps is only a sophomore but gained quite a bit of experience last year, 2,316 yards, 15 TDs, 9 INTs. Ole Miss corners will go up against some tall, fast receivers.

BYU also adds a USC transfer at middle linebacker, Uona Kaveinga who is being billed as a sideline to sideline impact player. Will be an interesting matchup against the middle of the Ole Miss OL. The OL is supposed to be one of the Rebels' strengths.

I think Ole Miss will have a chance to move the ball and score. We'll just see on the defense.

PA, what's your thoughts on our chances with BYU? ESPN bloggers are thinking it's an easy win for the Cougars, which it may be if our secondary has not improved, but I'm thinking with the size of our O-line and depth at RB, we should be able to keep their offense off the field by running the ball effectively and often. Thanks in advance.

AK, great point on the tight end. They haven't thrown to the big guys much in recent seasons, and it doesn't matter how athletic you are in the position if you're not going to use it. Ferbia Allen played in 12 games last year, started eight and caught five balls. Had a memorable drop against Vandy that was a certain TD.

I think Jamal Mosely changes things. He's that kind of athlete, plus the fact that David Lee will bring a bit of an NFL mentality to the play-calling, and they throw to the tight ends more up there. Mosely can be a real weapon.

Speed. There's much more and it's noticeable. The Rebels are a faster team than last year. The thing about speed is if you're not running to the right place it doesn't matter. Nobody is going to blow past Wesley Pendleton or Senquez Golson. If the corners are playing the right calls and the right techniques, they're going to make some plays.

Uriah Grant is quick along the DL, Keith Lewis with the linebackers. Those guys come to mind as new fast folks. There are others. There will be more speed on the field too as the Rebels play with a fifth defensive back. That will happen a good bit.

My thinking about the defense is that they are faster and more talented from Day 1, but going into this season and counting on inexperienced players at so many spots is a problem. Hopefully the young guys get up to game speed quickly, and talent overcomes inexperience.

PA, I have two questions for you. We were absolutely horrible last year in the secondary and it was clear we really lacked speed. From what you have seen, is there a noticable increase in the speed? Also, in your opinion, do you really see us being significantly better in that department?

Second, it seems like in the recent years, the tight end has has almost zero impact on our offense. It seems like we actually have weapons there now which might be a little different than previous years. Have you seen the tight ends more integrated into the offense than in previous years?

Thanks in advance PA, and keep up the good work!

Nick Brassell … A fantastic athlete. Other young receivers will play also, but Brassell holds his own with any of them and his being prepared for both sides of the ball.

Tobias Singleton … Can stretch the field and has come on recently in practice.

Donte Moncrief … Always a place for a guy who catches the ball in traffic. Receiver is a spot where a lot of players play, so these guys will get on the field.

Keith Lewis … Has been the fastest of the freshman linebackers. Ran with the first team in practice this week. A little ahead of the other young players right now at a position of need.

Senquez Golson … Secondary coach Keith Burns expects to play a lot of nickel and dime packages this year, and when he does, Golson will be in those sets. There's the potential for that role to increase, but that's where he is now. He's basically missed a week of practice, but he has the skill and desire to overcome that.

This is a class with a lot of potential. However, it's a long way from the practice field to the game field and then from "player" to "contributor." There will be early contributors from this class, but folks shouldn't expect too much too soon.

Some positions, like receiver, lend themselves to quick learning by new players. Some are different. With the things Senquez Golson brings to the table right now, he's still the fourth corner.

Parrish, we are all excited about the freshmen, but reality is that only the most advanced physically and mentally can be expected to contribute day one. With this in mind, please rank your top 5 to contribute immediately this year? Thanks
