It hasn't been a boring week, and there's a lot to talk about in the Friday Chat.

Did you like Pete Boone's appearance the Monday presser? Was it a positive move to get out in front of the football situation at Ole Miss?

And what exactly is the football situation? How important is Saturday's game at Georgia to the future of Houston Nutt as coach at Ole Miss? Many have taken to calling the Ole Miss-Georgia game the "Hot Seat Bowl."

What do you expect to see from Ole Miss tomorrow against Georgia? More fire and emotion? More execution? Will the Rebels play better, and more importantly, what are their chances to beat a team Nutt hasn't beaten in the best of times?

How about the Big 12 news from last night? Do you see Missouri coming on board as the SEC's 14th team, or will the league stay at an odd number for a while and look elsewhere for No. 14?

Leave your thoughts below, and start your own topics as well.

I'll be checking the thread throughout the day.

The only thing that has changed about how any public organization in MS has operated over the last 50 years is a better variety of colors of the people scamming the public lately. The Good Ole Boys integrated (somewhat) but they didn't start looking out for Joe Public. Run one off and the next one slides down into place like a vending machine. Fire whoever you like but the next guys won't be any better. Mike Leach wouldn't last a whole season in MS.

Sowell has never been good. I don't know what people have been seeing in him through the years, but he has consistently been whipped by defenders. I knew going into this year, that if he as the anchor of the line, it would be a long year.

Houston Nutt's "Cotton Bowl" chips were cashed in last year, losing to JAXSTATE. There has to be a total cleaning of the house. The roaches and rats must be disposed of. Look to the future. Get Austin, Punnunzio and a new coach. There are quality coaches available now and there will be more at the season's end. Anybody is better than this! Turn on the TV and they're talking about how bad the black bear's progam is. I am talking national media. With all the conference shakeups, the bears need to look a little stronger, c'mon man! Deficate or relocate!

I'm basing my assessment soley on what I can see with unforms on....which is arms for the most part.

Didnt Sowell play all last year? He should have learned the offensive calls by now. He is getting blown up. If its mental I think I have your answer, he is whooped by his girl and that baby....and not that I blame him, cause I love my wife and my children so much, people probably think Im whooped too. Im not playing football, he is.

I think so many of our guys have quick start families. (Babies, wives, ect..) Those families need support. They also require more of your time. I think we have to start looking at this in recruiting. My suggestion, quit going for these scholar athletes with families and get some straight up thugs with no families. (JJ/lol).

As I viewed the Sooner/Noles game last week I noted how the Sooner OL manhandled the Noles on defense. The nole defense is a very good unit but was no match for oklahoma. As I set there wonderin WHY cannot ole miss OL do this they are bigger than the sooners.

Dos, it's a public university, so ultimately the chancellor is accountable to the IHL board, which I would think could be influenced with enough public opposition from Ole Miss alumni/contributors.

As far as the OL, I think the problem is more in the head than at the waistline.

I think if OM wins an sec game, it will have to start with Ga. I dont see that happening since there have been no changes. I just wonder who the power brokers are and what type of financial shape OM is in if they decide to make a change? I think Nutt, Boone, and Jonesy have written themselves some pretty favorable contracts that would be hard to settle. PA, can u tell us if the who has the power to remove these three? Is there one person, a board, or can a petition do it? Ive always wondered what could be done if the rebel nation is fed up and Boone refuses to act?

As for the team, I dont think we are more than o.k. at rb and fb. Bolden looks good on paper because he accounted for almost 100% of our offense last year. Davis runs standing straight up and goes down at first touch. I dont see this changing.

Our OL is fat! I looked at all the sec lines over the week, and I can honestly say most of them are all muscled up in the arms and legs. Our guys look like they have excess fat dripping off their arms and guts. This equals weak and slow on the field....you cant correct that in a week.

I had a football coach that when we lost, he made us workout on conditioning for hours and hours. He always said we may not be the best team but we will be the most physically fit team. I think these guys have gotten spoiled with all these indoor facilities.

One thing I think hurts the program is not making all players live together and travel to games as a team. It seems now everyone is spread out over the county and city. Familes usually live together, thus forming stronger bonds. I think not having the athletic dorm is a big deal.

Having said all that, I dont think OM gets better until there is accountability. Boone failed at banking, I dont know why anyone thought he would be better at running an athletic program. Jones is a troll and ran the UMMC into the ground. Its less safe than parchman! Nutt is bi-polar, instead of mutliple d, he has mutiple p, as in mutiple personalities. I just want to get rid of this entire group and start over with people that are not afraid to sign a performance based contract. It is ashame OM doesnt demand more from their admin and coaches.....Miss is known as the welfare state and giving these losers big lucritive contracts with no controls is nothing more than welfare.

VaReb, expansion is all about the TV markets, so that's what Virginia Tech and Missouri bring to the table that Florida State doesn't. It's about getting the league into markets it isn't already.

Ready, I have heard that "cap and t-shirt" phrase, but Pete hasn't used it in a discussion with me, so I'm hesitant to speculate on it, though it sounds pretty plain. I'll tell you this, Pete has a very dry wit. I have a good relationship with him, but sometimes the wit can make him misunderstood in a public setting.

I agree with you guys regarding the O-Line. When that starting playing better, the entire offence will be better. It has to start with the line.

Parrish, I have heard the pharse "cap and tee shirt crowd" credited to Pete Boone. Can you give a little background on that. I know it is very easy to take someones words out of context. I have not really jumped on the "Hate Boone" band wagon, but this bothers me.

Thanks,

My thoughts are that the Rebels are talented and fully capable of playing with anyone. Emotions are hard to gauge, but if you don't play with at least some, not too many teams on any level are that much better than their opponent that they can just execute and win games. Granted there are going to be some days when the team just isn't clicking. That's when the coaches have to adjust on the fly and go with what works. With that said, I think that if the coaches come up with a good gameplan, the responsibility is on the players to make it happen. I think that we are going through some growing pains with the staff changes that are going to have to be worked out (case in point is Lee cutting way back on the complexity of the offense). I have faith in the Rebs, both players and coaches, and fully believe that they will get it turned around. Whether that translates into wins...we'll have to wait and see. As for Missouri: I'm not even that excited about Arkansas being part of the SEC so I don't know what kind of "fit" Missouri would be. I think Florida State would be the best fit with VA Tech being second best.

I know Virginia Tech's name is still out there as a possibility for the 14th SEC team, but it seems to me the ACC just strengthened its football and gained more TV markets with Syracuse and Pitt. Might make it harder to attract Tech or a North Carolina school unless there is bubbling discontent within the group that isn't as public as the problems A&M and others had with Texas and the Longhorn Network.

I just hope the Rebs play better. futher, just look back to the :King Lear" leadership days that started them on the way to FAME. Get down to basics VA Reb been a REb for over 50 years, as myself, and can see the determination that they once had and excelled in. SO I SAY GO REBS!!!!!! You have a very good coach in Coach NUTT listen and play hard for him or you could be playing for a has been once again.

my thoughts on boones appearance is that he was obviously addressing the heat he is feeling. he did put the blame straight on the coaching (and honestly i cant disagree with that). i think at this point, everyone is so upset with ole miss that boone will be criticized no matter what he does.

i dont think this game against georgia will be as important as the season all together. i think if we loose to georgia but still somehow pull out six wins (very doubtful) and make a bowl game, then nutt might salvage his job. now loosing to msu again will seal the deal.

I dont think we win tomorrow, but emotion is not the key to wins. when i think of an emotional team, i dont think of alabama, lsu, florida, texas, etc.. it doesnt win games, but i do understand what boone was saying in that they were as flat a tire against vandy. they do lack fight.

with the sec expansion, i would not like to see missouri. i would rather see a texas a&m on the west side and a florida state or virginia tech on the east.

Lance, I guess Pete wanted to get out in front of the story. He didn't give a vote of confidence for the short term and say Houston would be evaluated at the end of the year. He just said Houston was out to correct those mistakes that could be corrected. As far as evaluation, Pete just said he was taking it a day at a time. Not a lot of clarity there.

I figure the Rebels play hard tomorrow not because of what Pete had to say but because they're embarrassed by Vanderbilt. I don't think playing hard necessarily equates to playing smart and getting a win.

Raleigh, you're on the mark on the OL. Sowell has not looked like an All-SEC tackle. A theory was floated by a player that the problems with the tackles have to do with trying to help the guards. Maybe, but that's not the case all the time. Personally, I think if the OL could begin to function Ole Miss would get better quickly. There's talent at running back and receiver, and Mark Richt's description of Zack Stoudt as "capable" is a good read.

Given what I've seen so far there's no reason to expect a quantum leap forward for the OL tomorrow. Georgia will stunt and twist and do the things they've seen on film that Ole Miss has trouble blocking. It's good that Aaron Morris has been inserted and will at least have a chance to make an impact, but he's a freshman learning the ropes. Maybe he can make up for his inexperience with his physical play.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but what is up with the O-Line, especially Bradley Sowell? I don't think it was a stretch to vote him in as a Preseason All SEC, b/c in the past two years he has shown he deserves it. I really think that if the O-Line ever came around we'd have a good team. The defense is doing a good enough job to win games. Allowing only 30 points after 5 turnovers isn't bad in my opinion. I've still got hope, but this season may be more disappointing than last years.

I did not like the fact pete spoke at the presser. it seems like he is trying to save himself and in fact he should go 5 minutes before nutt goes since he brought this upon us. the situation is terrible and nutt is history. The rebs will not respond and will be run off the field. what bothers me most is it is on tv and kirby smart will go gome to Ga. and we wont get him. i think mark is a treading water in Ga anyway. Missouri would be ok but the sooners would be better for the sec but not for the rebs or for starkville
