Welcome back to the Friday chat. I'll be in and out today, checking the thread as the day goes along as opposed to walking the streets of San Francisco as Mrs. A and I did last Friday.

It's amazing how quickly the week goes by after a flying through the night and landing in Memphis on a Monday morning.

With tomorrow being an open date, I'll be down in Clinton at the cross country meet with Tupelo High. Looking forward to that.

The Rebels will have the day off too, then it's back to breaking rocks on Sunday afternoon as they focus on Alabama and what might be the best defense in the country. I've seen LSU's defense live, and they're pretty good too.

I am curious to see what the Ole Miss offense will look like next week. It will be a difficult situation for Randall Mackey in his first SEC start, just his second start overall.

I'm also wondering what different looks Houston Nutt may come up with for Alabama. There was less razzle dazzle from Nutt and David Lee against Fresno State than there was against Georgia. At the end of the day you have to get some things done from your basic sets, and the Rebels clearly had their best offensive day of the year at Fresno.

Do you feel like the Dan Jones' email last Thursday has quieted things on the administrative front?

Leave your questions, comments below.

RipleyReb, thanks for the feedback on the radio show, I think that's going to be a good thing.

That Fresno State win doesn't look as good after Boise State whooped them 57-7 last night.

The best thing about our O-Line last week was they were playing Fresno State. It's easy to see improvement from playing against Georgia's defense and then going against Fresno the following week.

We are in the eye of the hurricane this weekend. The "Tidal" surge will arrive next saturday, followed by #10 Arky and #15 Auby. That is literally a blast of triple A gunfire headed for the Johnny Rebs. Then the KCats and can't afford to overlook a talented LaTech team. Then LSU and the Dawgs. I am afraid that Kentucky will be the first real chance to break the SEC winless streak.

Ready, I think the latter part of your question is the truer part ... Mackey's ability will hide some flaws within the line.

That being said, a line develops a chemistry with the QB and RBs. If linemen know they don't have to hold a block as long or move a guy as far, it gives them an extra confidence boost. If that type of chemistry develops with Mackey, I think you'll see much improvement, more consistency in the run game.

As far as improvement on the line, it's hard for me to watch the line for the whole time or the larger parts of a game. I'm following the ball, keeping play by play. Sometimes a lineman makes an obvious play, but more often than not you really have to focus on watching individual linemen to get a feel for what they're doing. Unfortunately, it's not hard to see when the mess up. You can see where the pressure comes from or which linemen are standing next to the pile at the end of the play.

The best way to know how the line is doing is to watch the backs. I thought Bolden had a good hole on his first TD run at Fresno. He waited a bit for the hole to open, but it did, and he burst through. His second TD run - start right, reverse field, break two tackles - was an individual effort until the turned the corner with a block from someone, a receiver, but I forget who.

I have read a lot about our running backs, recievers and QB this week. What about the OL? Are they getting better at getting to and holding their blocks? Or, does Macky simple hide some of the problems with the line?

RK, it's harder to track AD replacements. Administrators typically don't receive as much exposure outside their immediate circle as coaches do. If an opening were to occur at the AD spot Dan Jones could choose to hire from within, where there are a couple of qualified candidates, or from without.

Parrish, I have seen and heard all about Houston Nutts replacement if he gets the boot. What I would like to know who could Ole Miss get as a new athletic director if Pete Boone gets the boot or resigns? If the new guy doesn't have strong leadership skills then whats the use?

Revreb, honestly, the extremes drive readership. Whether the news is extremely positive or extremely negative, that tends to be the case.

When teams are winning big with Cotton Bowls and super regionals, that's good for business.

Unfortunately for the school, that's also the case when the administration comes under fire or things of that nature.

Hi Parrish. Which of these situations typically results in increased readership in the newspaper business: when a team like Ole Miss is doing really well in football or when there is such apparent discord and disagreement about the leadership of a team like Ole Miss? I guess I've always heard that negative news drives up readership and was wondering if that's true.
