The Northeast Mississippi Birthing Project is organizing a community baby shower to assist expectant families who will welcome babies this winter.
As part of the National Day of Service, the event will be hosted at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Tupelo.
People who would like to support families who are expecting are asked to do at least one of the following:
• Bring a wrapped baby gift.
• Donate their time.
• Donate diapers or food.
Expectant families who would like to participate in the birthing project are asked to register.
Both volunteers and expectant families are asked to RSVP for the event by emailing nemsbirthingproject @yahoo.com or texting (662) 255-8283.
People who are blind or handicapped can hear about a free Library of Congress program to help them access books, audiobooks and DVDs.
Shellie Ziegler of the Mississippi Library Commission will speak at 1 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Helen Foster Auditorium at the Lee County Library about the program for the visually impaired and those whose disability makes it difficult to hold books.
The free Library of Congress program delivers books, digital audiobooks and descriptive DVDs, and is open to a broad range of individuals and institutions. It also is open to those with temporary disabilities.
