I suspect that loss of the head coach will have some impact on Arkansas, but the Razorbacks will be very good in other areas, and it seems they are fortunate to have an established player and leader at quarterback in Tyler Wilson.

In addition to Wilson, the Razorbacks will return Knile Davis at RB, and that could be a pretty good lift to an already potent offense – assuming Davis returns to the form he showed in 2010. Not all players do.

Very few players make it to Media Days to represent their schools, so I know there other “good quotes” around the league, but I can't imagine anyone better than Missouri wide receiver T.J. Moe. He's Kentrell Lockett at a skill position.

Best coach, and that means entertaining for the media, was Arkansas interim coach John L. Smith. Most irritable, and with cause, was Gary Pinkel of Missouri. The “do you realize you're in the SEC now” questions seem to be taking a bigger toll on Missouri than Texas A&M.

Tyler Russell could make the Mississippi State better at quarterback, but the Bulldogs will miss Vick Ballard.

At LSU, there are a lot of expectations for Zach Mettenberger, a quarterback with very little game experience. It is worth nothing, however, that Alabama's last two national championships – and LSU's own trip to the championship game last year – came without having elite players at that position.

Ole Miss players handled Media Days well. Seemed like there were more cliches coming from Donte Moncrief than from Charles Sawyer or Mike Marry.

LSU coach Les Miles had little to say about Tyrann Mathieu's Twitter rant in which Honey Badger called himself the best defensive player in college football. Miles: “No game is won on the Twitter page.” LSU fans have complained about a certain goofiness about Miles – the way his caps fit, the way he claps, eating grass – but it's an image I think he plays to sometimes.

Auburn defensive end Corey Lemonier says the league should not overlook his Tigers. Auburn was young and experienced growing pains in 2011. A year later the Tigers are much more mature and have high expectations in spite of the fact that two new coordinators are on board, Lemonier says.

That may be true, but Auburn will go into the season without an established quarterback and without the No. 2 rusher in the SEC last season, Michael Dyer.

It's not a stretch to think that Ole Miss' SEC losing streak – if the Rebels are improved -- could end on either Oct. 6 or Oct. 13, back-to-back home games against Texas A&M and Auburn.
